Thank you for visiting us
The community of Oakley has come together in a big way since the beginning of the pandemic and we continue to do so. So many people have been amazingly generous, kindly donating enormous amounts of material, yarns and other products to enable our group to remain financially stable.
In return, Oakley Stitchers remain active within the community. As well as our Stitcher Meetings and Open Craft Groups we attend and host local craft fayres, showcase our work and raise awareness at a range of community activities and in local magazines, volunteer at a local repair cafe and now also host workshops to teach new skills.
Every year in Oakley we get involved in Green Week which is a great way to help the environment.
2020 took a different turn and we introduced zoom groups to enable people to safely join in on the fun. Caroline did an amazing job of uploading a 'how to' video of her making a mask. ...
The Link has been running for a number of years which has only been made possible thanks to a dedicated team in the village.
Our Oakley Stitchers group has been featured in The Link to reach out to those who haven't heard about our group and need an item, or for those stitchers and knitters who want to donate their time to helping a great cause.
Oakley Community Association (OCA) have created a great little community that come together during times of crisis.
Their website and newsletter details everything people need to know about the support they offer, how to get involved and what is going on in and around Oakley.
Every year Oakley holds a great village show but sadly in 2020, due to the coronavirus, this couldn't be done in the usual way. No fear! Oakely is still here! The community came together to set up stalls outside people's houses and a map was created for everyone to socially distance.
Oakley Stitchers set up their stall and it was a resounding success getting so many people involved.
This was our first taste of hosting an event single-handed to showcase the work that we do and demonstrate how it is achieved, not to mention raise awareness and attract additional stitchers to join the fun.
We were very grateful to have the Mayor and Mayoress of Basingstoke visit us and also our lovely local Councellor Diane Taylor, who enjoyed meeting the stitchers and having a giggle at the Unicorn racing!
We raised over £500 toward the postage, materials, admin costs and hall rents we have to cover to make this happen.
Thank you to everyone for coming and making it such a great day.
As part of the coronation of King Charles III, we welcomed everyone to visit 'THE BIG HELP OUT'.
We supported the New King to celebrate the volunteer organisations around the UK by raising our local voluntary groups profile and allowing the local community to see what is available on their doorstep.
We had a wide selection of organisations for people around Oakley and the surrounding areas of Basingstoke to chat to.
It was an excellent opportunity to meet up and celebrate the amazing volunteers that we have locally, giving their time for others!
Well a Royal celebration just wouldn't be the same without an afternoon tea!
To help raise funds and provide a fun and enjoyable afternoon, to end the spectacular Coronation weekend we hosted an afternoon tea.
Many joined us for some homemade sweet and savoury goodies and of course bottomless tea.
To enable us to achieve providing materials to our community Stitchers and in turn the recipients of gifts from us. One of the ways we support other charities and raise vital money ourselves, is by attending fairs and events.
These are a lot of fun and we meet so many fantastic people, some who know of us, some that had no idea we existed and some that are often overwhelmed that we may be able to help them directly with some of the items we create.
Help us make a change @ SumUp
